(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) DOUGLASS, FREDERICK. Hon Frederick Douglass. Born 1817, died 1895. Large lithographic portrait, 28-1/2 x 22-1/2 inches; some discoloration from dampness (entirely washable), with a smallish but more noticeable damp-stain at the bottom corners Chicago: Kurz and Allison, circa 1895

  • Notes: A wonderful sensitive portrait of the great ex-slave orator, reformer and politician. Kurz and Allison were also known for their chromolithographic ''uplift'' portrayals of key battles of the Civil War. This copy hung on the wall of the Queensland Insustrial School in Ben Hill County, GA next to an engraving of Abraham Lincoln.
