(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) JENKINS & ROOT, MERCHANTS "Please pay the above to black boy Ned."

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) JENKINS & ROOT, MERCHANTS "Please pay the above to black boy Ned." Manuscript receipt: 8vo sheet with uneven margins, probably torn from a copy-book; docketed on the reverse. Georgetown, February 12, 1808

  • Notes: Addressed to Mr. A. Washington of the sloop Two Sisters, this is apparently a receipt for ships stores. It includes 34 barrels of pork, no doubt salt pork, a staple of ship's food in the 18th and 19th century. "Paid in my presence, Robert Browley," at the bottom of the page.
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
