(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) MUNLIN, WILLIE. Life History of Aaron Munlin. 1848-1911.

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) MUNLIN, WILLIE. Life History of Aaron Munlin. 1848-1911. Photographic frontispiece. 12 pages. 8vo, original printed cardstock cover, stapled. (Statesboro, GA, for the author), circa 1912

  • Notes: first edition. Aaron Munlin was born into slavery in South Carolina. His family was broken up and sold in 1856. His life was hard, being hired out numerous times. After 1866, Mundlin wandered around taking work where he could. Given to visions, he describes how he came to the Primitive Baptist Church and founded the Banks Creek Church. His started to write his autobiography in 1909; it was not finished or published until his passing in 1912, when his son Willie put this little pamphlet together. Rare, OCLC locates only two copies, giving the date of publication as 1973 . This is highly unlikely. It's more likely that the Bullock County Historical Society (to which OCLC attributes this), distributed these in 1973. From the paper, the cardstock covers and the letterpress, it is more likely that this was printed in 1912 as the last piece of text would indicate.
