(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) SIERRA LEONE. "We are All Brethren. Slave Trade Abolished by Great Britain, 1807." Bronze commemorative medal, 3.5 cm showing a European shaking hands with an African; the reverse bears a message in Arabic. A tiny hole for a chain has been filled in. A very good example. [London, 1814]

  • Notes: Issued by the British following the ban on the slave trade in 1807, these medals were distributed to the Arab slave traders in Sierra Leone. The initials "GFP" just below the date, stand for the maker, G.F. Pidgeon.
