(SLAVERY and ABOLITION.) (SLAVE NARRATIVE.) Lander, W. Tertsh. Life of Maumer Juno of Charleston, S.C. Portrait frontispiece of Juno. 8vo, original pictorial wrappers. Atlanta: Foote & Davies, 1892
- Notes: first edition. A memoir of the "mammy" of the Seymour family of Atlanta. Juno Waller Seymour was brought to Charleston from Africa as a child. She was purchased by the Seymours with whom she remained until her death in 1883. Juno's gravestone, placed there by her white family, reads, "Juno (nee Waller) Seymour. Born in Africa about 1790. Died in Anderson County, S.C., October 3, 1883. The faithful servant and friend of one family for eighty-three years; this memorial to her worth is erected by the descendants of her first owner." Juno was about 11 when taken from Africa, and could recall with clarity her life in Africa, retaining her native language as well. Schomburg copy incomplete; not in Work or Hampton catalogue.
