  • Notes: The prominent abolitionist Henry Brewster Stanton (1805-1887) had been scheduled to give an anti-slavery lecture in Townsend, MA, but when he arrived the meeting house was locked, and he was turned away. This broadside is his impassioned response: "Slavery lives and riots in darkness. It howls and dies under the consuming torch of free inquiry." None others traced in OCLC or at auction.
