Accomplished Printed Document Signed by the Principal Chief of the Choctaw Nation and the Governor of the Chickasaw Nation, granting a parcel of land to Phoebe Hughes, a former slave. One page, small folio, some staining and some separation along several folds; with two affixed paper seals; docketed on verso. Indian Territory, 21 December 1904
- Notes: The Five Civilized Tribes, which included the Choctaw and Chickasaw Nations, owned slaves before Emancipation. An act of Congress directed the Nations to grant each of their freed slaves a parcel equal to 40 acres. This deed grants land to a former slave named Phoebe Hughes.
