(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) The Slave Ship Brooke (supplied title)

(SLAVERY AND ABOLITION.) The Slave Ship Brooke (supplied title) Engraving, 11 1/2 x 18 1/4 inches. Matted and framed. Philadelphia: J.P. Parke, 1808

  • Notes: A fine example fo the famous engraving showing 482 men, women and children tightly packed into the hold of the slave-ship Brooke. Records show that as many as 609 people had been transported on this same ship. Given conditions such as these, it is no wonder that at one time nearly one third perished in the first leg of the three-part journey to slavery known as the "Middle Passage."
  • Condition: All items are offered for sale subject to Swann Galleries'' standard terms and conditions of sale, which are published in our catalogues.
