The inscription reads, "To Sid [Carroll]- for his birthday and because he likes my work - Hirschfeld 5/42.
Carroll (1913-1988) was a screen and TV writer, best known for his work on "Studio One" and "Alfred Hitchcock Presents." In 1961 he received an Oscar nomination for "The Hustler."
