  • Notes: first edition. Hewatt had served as a Presbyterian minister in Charleston through 1775. A loyalist, he wrote this history in exile in London. It includes extensive discussions of South Carolina's Indians and natural history, as well as a critique of slavery and the colonial reaction to the Stamp Act.
