- Notes: spenser''s only prose work, "a dialogue discussing the brutal measures needed to establish a stable colonial regime in the country" (DLB), where he spent most of the last 20 years of his life as a civil servant and landowner. The book was originally published in 1633, nearly a quarter century after his death.
