-
Notes: Fascinating archive of materials. Includes a nice Signed carte-de-visite portrait of the medium * Numerous clippings from newspapers regarding Eglinton * Important manuscript reports on seances held by Eglinton at Aldwyn Tower, Malvern during 1878 - the notes in the hand of participants to seances where the contact "Joey" and spectral figures appeared and "supernatural" things occured, with explanations on "scientific" experiments conducted to verify the genuineness of the proceedings * Copy of John Famer's "Twixt Two Worlds": A Narrative of the Life and Work of William Eglinton. With plates and a frontispiece portrait of the medium. 4to, original cloth, front cover loose, binding worn. This copy Inscribed and Signed by Eglinton. London, 1886 * Plus, several spiritualistic magazines of the period.
The manuscript notes by the participants of the seances held at Aldwyn Tower, Malvern are of importance. The extensive notes appear to be in two different hands. Both narrators refer to the same seances. Of most interest is a detailed account of a cage which was built to house the medium while he worked, so that no fakery could be committed. The notes contain a number of diagrams and drawings showing how the device was built. The participants were perfectly satisified of Mr. Eglinton's powers after this experiment. A most unusual gathering of materials on Eglinton, particularly the material relating to specific seances.
