Meltzoff was equally known and admired for his detailed scientific illustrations and fine art as he was for his magazine work. A noted master of sporting art, especially marine life, he was the first artist to realistically portray all the major game species in their natural habitats. He created numerous covers and internal illustrations for Scientific American, Field & Stream, and The Saturday Evening Post.
