[STARNES, EBENEZER.] The Slaveholder Abroad; Billy Buck's First Visit with his Master, to England. A Series of Letters from Dr. Pleasant to Major Joseph Jones of Georgia. Engraved frontispiece, 6 additional plates. 8vo, original blindstamped brown cloth; tips very lightly rubbed; lending library pocket on rear pastedown, small library number on dedication page. Philadelphia: J. B. Lippincott, 1860 E350/500 FIRST EDITION. Fanciful epistolary novel dedicated to Colonel Joseph Bond, largest Georgia slaveholder. Clearly pro-slavery, asserting slaves are well cared for by their masters, as in "The Slaveholder" taking Billy Bucks with him on an adventure/vacation. Highly critical of British hypocrisy in how they treated their own ( white) servants and laborers. Not in Blockson Collection; Schomburg Collection, rare, NCW (under the title); Sabin 02869.
