  • Condition: Stephen Shore's 1986 chromogenic contact print of "South façade, from Empire State Plaza, NY State Capitol, Albany" is overall in excellent condition. As typical of the process and prints of that age, the tones of the print have slightly shifted to warmer reddish hues, but very consistently and while retaining clear, bright tones and crisp detail.

Under close examination in raking light, the surface of the print is flawless.

The wide margins are also clean. Its verso evidences an abrasion on its upper left corner from a previous hinging (not impacting the image area or the print recto), the hinging is still present on the upper right corner as well a tiny rectangular piece of white tape on the extreme left edge. With Shore's signature in ink on verso.

The work is accompanied by a publication which is in good condition with light rubs on the spine. William Kennedy (essay), William Clift, Stephen Shore, Judith Turner, and Dan Weaks (photographs). The Capitol in Albany: A Quest for Grace and Glory. 4to, photo-pictorial wrappers. (New York): (Aperture Foundation, Inc.), (1986)

The Shore is reproduced on page 24 of this title.

A striking image and a lovely example of vintage color work by Shore, known for his pioneering work in color photography.
