Letter Signed, "Steuben Maj: Genl," to Brigadier General George Weedon, ordering him to Williamsburg with the Virginia militia to help thwart Benedict Arnold. 1 page, folio, with integral address leaf. "Cabbin Point" [Surry County, VA], 16 January 1781

  • Notes: Written from a temporary base south of Richmond, two weeks into Benedict Arnold's raid through Virginia. "From every intelligence I can secure, the enemy are marching their whole force towards Smithfield & it seems evident their intention is to establish themselves in the lower counties. Immediately on rec't hereof, you will march with whatever militia may be under your command to Williamsburg, where you will receive further orders."
