London: Longman, Green, and Co., 1886
- Notes: first english edition, first issue of the great horror story with date hand-corrected on cover. Longman had intended to market the book in December 1885 but, in order to avoid competition with the numerous Christmas releases, publication was postponed until January. This state in wrappers preceded the casebound issue by about a week. Beinecke 346; Prideaux 17.
