STIEGLITZ, ALFRED. Autograph Letter Signed, "Your old / Stieglitz," to John A. Tennant ("Dear Tennant"),

TO EDITOR OF PHOTO JOURNAL: "THIS COUNTRY IS NOT A GREAT READER" STIEGLITZ, ALFRED. Autograph Letter Signed, "Your old / Stieglitz," to John A. Tennant ("Dear Tennant"), expressing surprise that "P.M." is struggling [ The Photo-Miniature: A Monthly Magazine of Photographic Information (1899-1935), the publication Tennant edits], observing that Americans do not read as much as some others, giving encouragement, and, in a postscript, written vertically in left margin: "My head is still as empty as the proverbial cradle, so there have been no new negatives. I need 'head' to photograph. Queer!" 1 page, 4to; receipt date notated at upper left in unknown hand, faint toning to edges, folds. Lake George [NY], 4 August 1923

"And here I've been under the impression that the Photo-Miniature was really giving you a decent way. Truly I believed it. And that there must be a demand for many of the published issue[s]. Demand frequently lags enough for reprints. I know this country is not a great reader even though it supports newspapers & the Ladies H[ome] Journal--& Saturday Evening Post. But I did believe (hoped may be better) that there was some improvement. The P.M. certainly deserves hearty support. You are certainly a friend of the trade & a friend of photographers. You are not a 'monstrosity' like myself. So, here's to luck!"
