Sylvie (Louise Sylvain, 1883-1970), was a prominent actress who worked regularly in theaters and in movies. She had one of the longest careers in French show business: her leading role in La Vieille Dame Indigne was her biggest success, earning her the Grand Prix de l'Académie du Cinéma, and she starred in the film when she was 81! This poster may well be the first of the many poster-portraits Colin created using a flat plane and including a shadowy, geometric partition that adds graphic flair and effectiveness to what would otherwise be a straightforward bust portrait.
