"I am very sorry that the father of the great new science of aeronautics is dead, and that he has not been permitted to live to see the wonderful development that is sure to follow along the primary lines of the new science which he laid down. He deserves to stand with Fulton and Stephenson and Bell."
On May 30 and 31, 1912, newspapers across the U.S. announced the death of aviation pioneer Wilbur Wright, including the New York Times, the Dayton Daily News, and the San Francisco Call, each publishing President Taft's words commemorating the occasion.
