- Notes: first edition of an account of the 1603-09 journey from India to Italy via Persia by the Portuguese Marrano Teixeira (circa 1570-1650?). "The book is still held to be one of the most important sources of information about the Orient at the beginning of the 17th century. Apart from the descriptive material, it contains a history of the rulers of Persia and demographic information about the Jews of Baghdad, Aleppo, and Persia " (EJ). One of the great European travellers of the period, Texeira circumnavigated the globe in the years 1585-1601 and in 1637 led an expedition to Brazil and Peru during which he established boundaries between Spanish and Portuguese territories.
