(TEXAS.) Whatley, Seaborn J. Texas colonization petition and deed.
(TEXAS.) Whatley, Seaborn J. Texas colonization petition and deed. Autograph Manuscript Signed, 4 pages on 2 leaves, 12 x 8.5 inches but lacking the bottom half of the second leaf with substantial loss of text, worn at margins and at folds. Mina [Bastrop, TX], 19 May 1835
- Notes: Just months before the start of the Texas Revolution, a colonist expresses his wish to make a permanent settlement in what became Bastrop County. The petition is made out under the official seal of the Mexican state of Coahuila y Tejas, but it is addressed in English "To the Commissioner of Milam''s Colony" and to R.M. Williamson as Milam''s agent. His petition is followed by a deed to Whatley; the text describing the land''s boundaries is lost.
