(TEXTILE MAP.) Western Hemisphere, or the New World.

(TEXTILE MAP.) Western Hemisphere, or the New World. Map of the Americas decorated with two costumed figures and several sailing tracks printed in red ink on linen. 19x21 1/2 inches overall, edges hemmed; "I. Bogart" embroidered in black thread at lower right; overall very well preserved. Np, but English (?), circa 1800

  • Notes: An excellent piece of textile-printed cartography, the present map is derived from an unidentified source; it may or may not have had an Eastern Hemispheric counterpart. The tables in the left spandrels and the "American" and "Asiatic" figures at right all within a thin star-patterned border lend an agreeable balance and aesthetic to complete the design of this curious independently produced map.
