THE ABOLITION OF LOGIC (DADA.) Tzara, Tristan; editor. Dada 3. Illustrated by Arp, Segal, and Janco. Contributions by Francis Picabia and Hans Richter among others. Thin folio, original printed wrappers, lightly soiled and browned along outside edges of covers, otherwise unusually good. (Zurich, 1918)

  • Notes: scarce copy of the most famous issue of the dada journal containing Tzara's Dada Manifesto of 1918. With this bold proclamation, Tzara caught the attention of the European avant-garde and signaled the growth and impact of the movement. Volume 3 differed greatly from the first two issues, breaking the conventions of typography and layout by using randomly ordered lettering and illustration. It embodied Dada's celebration of absurdity and chaos with an explosive mixture of manifestos, poetry, and advertisements.
