THE AMENIA CONFERENCE (DU BOIS, W. E. B.) Group of 3 small photographic portraits of Du Bois and colleagues at the Amenia Conference, silver prints

THE AMENIA CONFERENCE (DU BOIS, W. E. B.) Group of 3 small photographic portraits of Du Bois and colleagues at the Amenia Conference, silver prints in 3 3/4x4 3/4 inch format, one photo with small chip at edges. New York, 1916

  • Notes: Candid outdoor shots, including one with Du Bois shaving outside his tent. The annual meeting of the NAACP was to have been held in 1915, but was postponed until 1916 because of the death of Booker T. Washington. It was at the Amenia Conference that Du Bois introduced his more radical approach to dealing with the position of the Negro in American society. He wrote what he called the "Unity Platform" to better draw the old Booker T. people and the more militant leaders together.
