The Marx Bothers, "A Night at the Opera."
Color lithograph, 21x27 inches oblong. Artist's proof, signed by Hirschfeld and annotated "ap vii/xx."
"This comic image of them, graphically, is similar to the Laurel and Hardy drawing earlier. The tuba wasn't the preferred instrument of either Chico or Harpo, and it doesn't look like Harpo is enjoying this concert either. But uniting the three of them does make for a good zany image - the tuba encircling Chico and Harpo, and blasting Groucho. Its also a good "instrument" for me to play up their individual comic characters - irritated for Groucho, Chico blowing hard, and Harpo's fingers hitting every mischievous note he can reach." HOL/253
