"THE YANKEES ARE ENEMIES TO THE SOUTHERN PEOPLE" (JUVENILE.) Moore, M. B. The Dixie Speller, to follow the First Dixie Reader. Scattered wood-engraved illustrations. 12mo, original lettered boards, quite darkened and slightly warped, rebacked with cloth; toned leaves from the poor quality of paper used. Raleigh, NC, 1864
- Notes: first edition. One of Mrs. Moore's "Dixie Series," this little book was meant to teach the children of the South not only the 3 "R's" but moral lessons about life and, of course, the war. Excerpts follow: "This sad war is a bad thing;" "My papa went and died in the war;" "It is not a sin to own slaves, but it is a very great sin to treat them cruelly." Parrish and Willingham 7801.
