(THEATRE.) STOWE, HARRIET BEECHER. Uncle Tom’s Cabin: Lotta’s Performance as Topsy.

(THEATRE.) STOWE, HARRIET BEECHER. Uncle Tom's Cabin: Lotta's Performance as Topsy. Letterpress theatre broadside, 18-3/4 x 8-3/4 inches, with a fine, large woodcut (3-1/4 x 5 inches) of Little Eva reading the Bible to Uncle Tom, in the center; paper evenly toned; framed. Boston: circa 1865-1875

  • Notes: broadside for a boston performance with a rare woodcut illustration. Uncle Tom's Cabin was dramatized almost immediately following the book's release and overwhelming success. The woodcut vignette on this broadside is the original illustration by Hammatt Billings that appears on page 83 of the first edition.
