THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975) Island Hay.

THOMAS HART BENTON (1889-1975)

Island Hay.
Lithograph, 1945. 255x320 mm; 10x12 5/8 inches, full margins. Edition of 250. Signed in pencil, lower right. Published by Associated American Artists, New York. A very good, dark impression.

As the title references, this lithograph represents a farming scene on Martha's Vineyard, where the small, uneven, rocky fields were still cut with scythes. The lithograph is based on a drawing and painting of the same subject that Benton made in the mid-1920s. Fath 68.

  • Condition: The sheet is free from any mount and there are two 1-inch pieces of linen tape from a previous mat. Overall, in very good, clean condition. Loose as issued.
