THOMAS HART BENTON The Discussion.

THOMAS HART BENTON
The Discussion.

Lithograph, 1969. 250x305 mm; 9 7/8x12 inches, full margins. Edition of 250. Signed in pencil, lower right. Published by Associated American Artists, New York. A superb impression of this very scarce lithograph.

Based on an earlier drawing by the artist sketched during the famous "sit down" strikes in Detroit during the summer of 1937; "A discussion between a union recruiter and a negro worker, the union boss sits in the background looking on," (Fath, page 184).

Despite an edition of 250 cited by Fath, we have found only 11 other impressions at auction in the past 30 years, indicating that the proposed edition of 250 might never have been completed. Fath 82.
