Crow Indians on horseback. Silver print, 6x8 inches (15.2x20.3 cm.), affixed to the original mount, with Throssel's signature and date, in pencil, and his embossed amphora-shaped seal on mount recto, with the numbers "6838" and "1907" on print recto; in the original frame. 1913

  • Notes: Born of French Canadian Cree Indian descent, Throssel was adopted by the Crow Tribe in 1905 and given the name Esh Quon Dupahs ("Killed Inside the Camp"). His photographs are housed at the American Heritage Center of the University of Wyoming.
  • Condition: Throssel's painterly silver print, which is on textured paper, with thin white margins around the image area, is in excellent condition. The print displays delicate tones throughout. There are several tiny white spots in the lower left and bottom portion of the picture that reflect clear (uncoated) areas on the original negative. There's faint silvering along the right edge.

    The print is affixed to a period mount with Throssel's penciled signature and date as well as his debossed hand stamp; it's hosued in a period wodden frame. Throssel's inventory number and amphora-shaped logo appears in in the negative, at the lower right.
