TO MONET ON HIS CATHEDRALSPISSARRO, CAMILLE. Autograph Letter Signed, to Claude Monet [but addressed as "dear friend"], in French, hoping to introduce him to a friend who likes his work, inquiring about a good time to visit, expressing his own excitement at seeing Monet's Cathedrals and comparing it to others, telling him of his trip to Flanders and sending regards to Monet's wife. 1 pages, folded 8vo sheet, written on the same side; folds. Eragny, 21 October 1894
- Notes: In 1892, Monet began work on his justly famous series of 20 paintings depicting the Rouen Cathedrals in varying shades of color and light and continued mostly from memory through 1894. They were first shown publicly as a series in 1895. Pissarro, an ardent supporter of Monet, was greatly influenced by Monet's success with this series, and in turn accomplished several paintings himself of scenes in Rouen. The relationship between the two Impressionist painters can be traced to a much earlier point in their careers, when the two (along with Renoir and Sisley) planned a society of independent artists to exhibit works outside of the Salons.
