Born in Germany, and the son of a sculptor, Parzinger received his own artistic training at the Kunstgewerbeschule in Berlin. He predominantly created furniture and decorative objects, later turning to Expressionist painting at the end of his life. In 1924, Parzinger became a member of "The Six," the second of two groups of Munich poster artists focusing on commercial art (the first, in 1914), alongside Franz Paul Glass, Max Eschle, and Otto Ottler. In 1932, he won a poster competition with the prize of a trip to America on the S.S. Bremen. Upon returning to Germany, he won a second contest, but when he found out that claiming his prize required him to join the Nazi party, he instead left immediately for New York. He began his career there designing crystal, brass and furniture for Rena Rosenthal, a trendy retailer on Madison Avenue, where his high-style Modernism was much appreciated and collected by famous clients such as Marilyn Monroe, Arthur Miller, the Rockefellers and DuPonts. Parzinger moved on to form his own company in 1939 where he successfully shifted his focus to silverware and accessories, while continuing to design for other companies as well. His versatility and craftsmanship with brass work, silverware and lacquer translate well into the decorative elements of the mask and surrounding ornaments in this poster. The joyful pink background with aqua accents and stylized Japanese mask make this a striking poster, advertising an 11-day long festival of ballets and balls at the Hotel Bayerischer - masquerade attire recommended.
