TROLLOPE, ANTHONY. Orley Farm.
TROLLOPE, ANTHONY. Orley Farm. 40 illustrations by J. E. Millais. 2 volumes. 8vo, publisher's blindstamped purple-brown cloth with gilt-lettered spines, light spotting, spines faded; clean 1-inch tear at top of front endpaper in Volume 1 along with small soil mark to frontispiece with small transference to title. London: Chapman and Hall, 1862
first edition in book form, bound from the parts. A notoriously complicated collation, this set appears to have most points for the first issue including the stab holes at page edges (from wrappers binding) and first state illustration lists. What differs is Sadleir's calling for the horizontal rib pattern on Volume 2 (it is vertical as with Volume 1) and the illustrations between pages 86 and 87 are rearranged so that "And then they all marched . . ." is here opposite page 65. Sadleir 13.
