In April of 1912, the National Old Trains Road Association was established in Kansas City to develop a U.S. national highway--the National Old Trails Road--extending from coast to coast. Judge Joseph Macaulay Lowe (1844-1926) served as its first president, followed by Harry S. Truman in 1926.
