TURNER, NAT.

Insurrection of the Blacks in Niles Weekly Register of 3 September 1831. 16 pages. Small 4to, disbound; scattered foxing. Baltimore, 1831 Wonderful early account of this slave uprising, popularly referred to as the Nat Turner Rebellion. More than a page is devoted to the description of the horrors of the rebellion in Southampton County, Virginia, including the capture of the insurgents. Turner, however, was still loose. Ironically, the aftermath of this rebellion led to even more repressive and cruel treatment of slaves throughout the panic-stricken South.
