First appearance of Twain's humorous "Introduction to the Osgood Edition." The First American Edition is inscribed and signed by albert bigelow paine, from Redding (Ct.) to a Miss Florence Hoadley "To recall days with the Princess Irene." Additionally, a Signed photograph of him is tipped to front pastedown. Paine was Twain's biographer and literary executor and is considered the single most influential person in Twain scholarship.
