The Descent from the Cross.
Chiaroscuro woodcut printed in dark brown, tan and black on cream laid paper, circa 1520. 355x274 mm; 14x10 7/8 inches. Ex-collection Friedrich August II (Lugt 791, lower right recto). Trimmed on or just inside the border line, horizontal tear center left through the upper body of the figure on the ladder, small loss at the top of the ladder on the right with additions in pen and ink, laid down on card stock. A good impression of this scarce, early print. Bartsch 22.
