Chiaroscuro woodcut printed in dark green, light green and black on cream laid paper mounted on card stock, circa 1515. 227x343 mm; 9x13 1/2 inches. First state (of 3). Ex-collection Karl Ewald Hasse (Lugt 860, lower right recto). Trimed on or just outside the border line. A superb, early impression of this scarce print.
Raphael's cartoon, on which the current work is based, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London.
We have found only 2 other impressions at auction in the past 20 years. Bartsch 13.
