VACLAV VYTLACIL AND ESPHYR SLOBODKINA

Composition.

Double-sided lithograph, 1937. 235x305 mm; 9 1/4x12 inches (sheet), full margins. Signed and dated by both artists in pencil, lower right (of their respective prints). Superb impressions of these scarce prints.

Both artists were founding members of the American Abstract Artists group (1936), which brought together non-objective artists such as Albers, Moholy-Nagy, Nicholson, Smith, Feininger and many others.

Slobodkina (1908-2002) also became a successful children's book illustrator. Her best known work is probably Caps for Sale, published in 1938.
