This group of riveting crime tales --from the memoirs of Eugène-François Vidocq and Joseph Fouché to accounts of the notorious Radlett and Road murders-- inspired some of the greatest 19th-century writers including Edgar Allan Poe, Honoré de Balzac, and Victor Hugo.
