WIENER WERKSTÄTTE PROGRAM (VIENNA SECESSION.) Kabarett Fledermaus. Four color plates, one each by Oskar Kokoschka and Berthold Löffler, and two by Fritz Zeymer. [22] pages. Small folio measuring 241x235 mm, original decorated wrappers, moderate overall toning, recased, with paper reinforcement on rear cover verso and spine, a few other paper repairs to creases and chips along edges of front cover, some color restoration to two small portions of covers, small pinhole at top center of covers through entire contents, faint offsetting and light occasional foxing. Notes: In 1906 Mary Delvard and Mark Henry opened the Nachtlicht cabaret in Vienna. The following year the cabaret moved to a new location and adopted the name Fledermaus. The entire production was designed by Secession artists and realized by the Wiener Werkstätte, becoming a showcase of their style and craftsmanship. The architecture and interiors were designed by Josef Hoffmann, and the bar was decorated by Berthold Löffler, who also designed posters for the theater. All of the show programs were designed by members of the group. This was their second program. It was laid out by Otto Czeschka, who joined the Werkstätte in 1906 and introduced decorative elements into their repertoire of design concepts. The work is a masterpiece of printing and design and is exceedingly scarce in any condition. Wiener Grafik, pages 310-312.
