- Notes: Byrd's library of literature and colonial history was auctioned by Robert Bell in Philadelphia in 1781. "A very interesting specimen of its class... Colonel Byrd [1674-1744] was a very distinguished Virginian: was born to an ample fortune, liberally educated, and became the patron of science and literature in his native state"--Allen, American Bookplates 123.
