Quarto, a reprint of the earlier 1543 Strasbourg, this new edition with French architect Guillaume Philander's (1505-1563) scholarly notes in their first appearance; illustrated throughout with text woodcuts; title page printed in red and black; ownership inscription of Thomas Martin dated 1604 to title page; bound in modern full calf incorporating the front panel of an early English binding with large gilt-tooled lozenge mounted over the new leather; ex libris Edmond Newdigate, M.D. with armorial bookplate loosely inserted; Charles John Shoppee's bookplate pasted inside front board, final few leaves washed, some traces of mildew, paper weakened; 7 1/4 x 5 3/4 in.
