Etching and aquatint, 1967. 275x195 mm; 10 7/8x7 7/8 inches, full margins. Artist's proof. Signed, dated and inscribed "Artist's Proof #5" in pencil, lower margin. A very good, dark impression.
A graduate of Hunter College, and a student at the Art Students League in New York, Vivian Browne worked with Bob Blackburn in his printmaking workshop from the late 60s. She was in the vanguard of African-American artists active in organizing exhibitions of women artists in the 1970s. Her decades of teaching at Rutgers University and the Newark College of Arts and Sciences earned her the Distinguished Teacher of Studio Award from the College Arts Association in 1989.
