WALKER EVANS (1903-1975) Interior of miner's shack. Scott's Run outside of Morgantown, West Virginia.

WALKER EVANS (1903-1975)
Interior of miner's shack. Scott's Run outside of Morgantown, West Virginia. Silver print, the image measuring 10 3/8x12¾ inches (26.4x32.4 cm.), the sheet slightly larger, with the Library of Congress stamp and Evan's credit, title, negative date, and numeric notations in pencil on verso. 1935; printed circa 1960-70

  • Condition: Walker's photograph of a child in miner's shack is in excellent condition. The print is contrasty with crisp details.

Under close examination and raking light, the print doesn't evidence any imperfection, except for a faint patina of silvering in the darkest areas of the image on the upper edge. This is not disruptive at all.

Its thin margins evidence a bit of warming - as well as its verso - and a few scattered faint creases at their extreme corners (not entering the image area), but are clean and neat otherwise.

A fine example of the Depression Era Poverty Evans documented.
