WALTER CRANE (1845-1915)
Cherub with bow and arrow. Original Watercolor on Silk, 1885. Signed by Walter Crane with his distinctive monogram and dated "85". 14 1/2 x 14 1/2 inches, framed to 22 1/2 x 22 1/2 inches. Silk painting with silk-covered matts, framed and glazed. Fine, but for minor scratches and chips to frame, with slight loss at the corners.

This lovely painting was entered in the Summer Exhibition at the Grosvenor Gallery (London) in 1886 and was listed in the catalog as "A Naughty Little Boy with Bow and Arrow." Henry Blackburn also used the image on the title page of the guide he did for the exhibition Grosvenor Notes 1886. George Bernard Shaw's review of the exhibition commented: "Mr. Walter Crane's Cupid apparently painted on a handkerchief."
