Walter Dexel 1890-1973 Fotografie Der Gegenwart. 1929 Tri-fold, double-sided brochure. 11.5 x 8.125 inches. W Pfannkuch, Magdeburg. Condition A: two horizontal folds, as issued. A graphic designer related to the Constructivist Movement, with close ties to many Bauhaus artists, Dexel worked extensively in typography and commercialart. In 1927, he organized the exhibition "New Advertising," which wasthe first survey of modern design in the field. For a photography showtwo years later, Dexel created this advertising leaflet, which is typical of his very rigorous geometrical style. As in the poster, which he also designed, the brochure makes use of the same negative/positive, black-and-white composition, which allows him to organize the typography in a unique, informative fashion. A rare document. ref The 20th Century Poster-Design of the Avant-Garde, Abbeville, Ny, 1984 - rep. p. 136 E1000-1500 Samuel Schwarz 1876-1942
