(WAR OF 1812.) American Mercury. Incomplete run of 31 issues, each 4 pages, 20 x 12 inches. Folio, disbound; minor dampstaining, moderate edge wear with minimal loss of text, a few repaired tears. Hartford, CT, 18 January 1814 to 26 July 1815

  • Notes: Most of the issues are from the dramatic period of April through October of 1814, including the Fort Erie Campaign, the burning of Washington, and Fort Henry. A headline from the 30 August 1814 issue: "Highly Interesting and Very Important News. Report of the Capture of the Capitol." The 20 September issue announces "Defeat and Retreat of the British Army and Fleet which Attacked Baltimore." Complete list of issues upon request.
