I doubt whether the government will go to war for the preservation of what are undoubtedly our neutral rights." Washington, 13 January 1810 * Printed circular letter from the "Friends of Liberty, Peace, and Commerce" and signed by Richard Varick and 8 others, addressed to Charles Hall of Sunbury, PA, opposing the declaration of war. New York, 28 August 1812 * James Wood. Contemporary copy of a letter to Brigadier General Leftwich of the Virginia militia at Point Pleasant, announcing that the civilians of the Richmond area are contributing "700 pairs of strong shoes, 300 flannel under-jackets, and 69 pair of yarn stockings" to the war effort. Richmond, VA, 9 October 1812 * Nicholas Brewer, Autograph Letter Signed to Rev. John S. Martin, sending tickets to the anniversary celebration of the defense of Baltimore, Baltimore, 11 September 1860. With a ticket to the event, a barge ticket for transport, and a related clipping, and the mailing envelope.
